Peter was CU President at the Royal Free from 1969-71 and a UCCF Staff Worker from 1974-77. He was a GP in Southampton from 1979 to 2006. From 1978-91 Peter chaired Southampton School of Christian Studies. He has served on Church of England's General Synod since 1985, and on its Board of Mission 1990-2001, and Crown Appointments Commission (Wincs) 1994-5. He is the author of Dialogue in Evangelism (Grove Books, 1990) and CMF's Confident Christianity training programme. From 1997 to 2001 he was Medical Columnist with CEN.

Peter is married to Heather. They have four married children and an accumulation of grandchildren.
