Evangelistic opportunities throughout the year
At each social event, have a sheet on each chair where each International Student can fill in different options.
Make the most of social events and see where you can turn them into a gospel opportunity.
Here are some ideas:
- Christmas meal and a talk on the meaning of Christmas
- Valentines meal and music with testimonies and talk on the greatest love of all
- Passover supper
- Easter service with meal
Freshers week
This is the most important time of year, IS will have just arrived in the UK. Life may seem very different, IS may miss their friends family, finding British culture unfamiliar and sometimes puzzling. This is a huge opportunity not to be missed; Christians can stand out from the rest of the crowd and show love and concern for these students.
What are the needs of International Students at this time?
How can the café team meet them?
Some ideas from CUs around the country:
- City tour to introduce the IS to the city
- Cookery classes to show IS how to cook with British food
- Drop in centres with drinks where any question can be asked
- Cheap pot and pan sale; evening meals provided on campus
Mission week
Run an International student mission track alongside the rest of your CU mission. Each evening you could put on a meal from a different country and then have a short gospel talk.
Here are some example talk titles from Southampton LIFE Gospel mission 2003
- Whats in a name? (looking at the definitions to the different names of Jesus eg Jesus as rescuer and Immanuel taken from Matt 1)
- What is a human being? (Looking at the question ‘Who am I?’)
- Whats wrong with the world?
- What must I do to please God?
