Too busy not to pray
Bill Hybels
Bill Hybels challenges us to pray – especially when we are very busy, because that is when we need God most keenly. When we work, we work, but when we pray, God works. He encourages us to have “substantial, soul-searching conversations with God” daily, and see how God reveals more of himself to us in doing so.
Hybels writes that we need be disciplined about our prayer lives, and pray regularly in a private place. He challenges us to actually meet with God, and listen to him carefully rather than simply presenting him with a list of requests. Our focus is to be on God, not on circumstances, and we need to pray in a balanced way. Hybels suggests a helpful pattern and focus to help us to achieve this. He then goes on to talk about prayer in terms of “living in God’s Presence”, it is not simply a “quiet time” activity, but is rather a continuous conversation with God. Hybels recognises that one of the things with which we struggle is unanswered prayer, and discusses this in a helpful and thought-provoking way that does not detract from God's Sovereignty.
