World View Survey
The Worldview survey is a tried and tested tool to aid your CU in its evangelism. The questions are designed to get the people that you are having discussions with to think through what they really believe and why they believe it. Many good conversations have come about based upon this survey.
When is the best time to do the survey?
Lunchtimes or coffee breaks are often good times as people have a bit more time than in between lectures or at the end of the day.
Where is a good place to do worldview surveys?
Doing the surveys near a student café or restaurant is good. Or if there is a place where people hang out inside or outside go there (weather dependant).
Another good area to do the surveys in is at of the college/uni’s main thoroughfares.
This way you are able to stop more people in a short space of time rather than standing twiddling your thumbs.
How to do the survey?
It can be a bit scary standing in a corridor stopping strangers in order to do a survey. It is normal to feel apprehensive but once you do 1 or 2 surveys you will really enjoy the discussion.
Here is a scenario to help you see how it works.
Kate and John from the CU have a clipboard with a survey on they are standing in a corridor near a café. Kate asks a passer by,” have you got a couple of minutes we are trying to find out people’s worldviews?"
Anna stops and says, “Ok, what do I need to do?”
Kate says “Just answer the questions on the sheet and when you have finished we can put your answers into our computer and find out your worldview”
5 minutes later Kate takes Anna over to the computer table where a lovely CU person called Mike is on the laptop.
Mike enters the info into the computer and while they are waiting Kate chats to Anna about what course she is doing and how she is finding life as a student.
When the results come in Kate says to Anna “would to know what your highest score is”, “yes go on” says Anna.
“It says that you are an existentialist, do you know what that is?” Says Kate, “um, not sure” says Anna.
Kate then asks Anna to read the brief description on the sheet describing what an existentialist is.
“Does any of that resonate with you?” asks Kate
They then begin to have a discussion about truth, relative truth and objective truth, and the conversation goes with Kate sharing what she believes.
At the end of the chat Kate invites Anna to come to a lunchtime talk the CU are putting on.
How do you get hold of the worldview survey and
all the hi-tech stuff?
The survey is currently only available for Microsoft Windows (produced by Philip Billington).
The download contains the survey itself, and the computer program that will compile the results of the survey for you.
