Proclamational and First Contact Evangelism Resources

Seasonal evangelism

‘Tis the season to be Jolly, there’s a reason for a season and so on…..

There is no doubt that Christmas is a great opportunity to share the gospel.

It is great to see many CUs taking the opportunity to put on carol services and meals with a talk. Christmas is great but there are lot more seasonal events in the year to be sharing the gospel.

Here is a list of things you could think about.

Halloween talk, Halloween Questionnaire, Christmas Carol service, Christmas meal, Christmas lunch bar talk, Christmas Questionnaire, Valentines Day, bonfire/fireworks party with talk, Easter eggs with bible verse on them, and an Easter talk,

Halloween

Halloween has been a big thing in the USA for years and it seems we are slowly catching up with our American cousins with making a bit more of a deal out of October 31st.

It seems like this could be a good time for a lunchtime or evening talk on Evil?

We notice the sci-fi crew and Goths dressed in black on campus but there is a big interest in the occult on campus.

It may also be a good chance to use the Halloween Questionnaire in order to generate a good conversation with people. Click Here to download it.

Bonfire night/fireworks party

Depending on the size of your CU you could have an event that involves food and fireworks.

Why not have a talk on suffering or the problem of sin – relating it to terrorism.

Christmas

This is the big one in the Calendar and the most likely time people are going to come to a talk on campus.

What you do on campus depends on the size of your CU.

I think the model used in Edinburgh is a good one and worth stealing.

If your university/college is in a city or big town join together with other CUs to put on a big Christmas Carol service with a gospel talk.

This saves time and money and maximises the resources.

Where do you do it?

In a church or building that will take a large number of people.

It maybe you can start off with a church that takes 500 people and if the numbers are larger you could run 2 services.

When to start to planning the event?

It might seem really far from Christmas but April/May are a good time to start  making plans, book the venue, the speaker and delegate roles.

What will you need to make event happen?

A team from different CUs to plan the night.

Key areas are

  • Publicity
  • Admin – booking speaker/ venue
