Volunteer at Forum

Testimonies from 2011…

"Through volunteering, I have been equipped to come back and serve my CU, my church and everyone else in so many ways."

"Stewarding is fun and because I benefited a lot from going to Forum when I was leading CU and can see how necessary the stewards are."

"I have no doubt in my mind that this is the best student conference I know of in combining church diversity with authentic gospel unity. The work of UCCF is fundamental to the future of the UK church and beyond, so Forum is a fantastic and unique opportunity to serve."

"It was simply a joy to look out on the field of tents, knowing that there we were helping students leaders to come and hear God speak to them. It was wonderful seeing students refreshed and equipped for mission."

Fancy coming to Forum as a volunteer? If you’re 18 and over we have a variety of teams you could be involved in! Food and indoor accommodation will be provided free of charge, as well as your own exclusive volunteer lounge to chill out and grab free drinks and snacks.

We need enthusiastic volunteers to get stuck in with a variety of behind-the-scenes jobs. Volunteering at Forum is great fun! It's a chance to meet new people, experience something different and serve God in a practical way! This will be your full-time role at Forum, and shouldn't be considered as a way to attend Forum for free (after all, you can listen to all the talks afterwards on our website!) If you have a heart for student mission, this could be a great way to round off your summer.

Forum Volunteers Manager

Six week internship from mid-August to mid-September 2012.

We require an enthusiastic and hardworking individual with an eye for detail and the confidence to manage a large team of volunteers to join the Forum Planning Team in the lead up to and during Forum. You may already have experience in administration or management and wish to build on it, or have a desire to flex your organisational ambition in a large arena. This internship would suit a graduate of any discipline with a passion for student mission and a desire to take on a new challenge!

Apply by 29 February 2012 - for details of how to do this, download this information pack.

Stewards

The back-bone of Forum, stewards provide essential support throughout the week. Part of a large and friendly team, you will help manage our venues, including the main meetings, Digging Deeper tracks, workshops, and After Hours. You will also help set up facilities for meetings and provide day-time site security through patrols. Stewards with any technical experience with small PA or recording equipment will also be valuable for recording workshops. If you can work well as part of a team, and are a problem solver with a helpful and friendly attitude then we'd love to hear from you!

Cooks

Working in a small team of volunteers, you will be working under the supervision of the professional catering staff in the kitchens. You will be involved with supporting the catering staff with preparing the food, and the general running of the kitchen. Don't worry you won't be doing the washing up! You will be asked to work either the morning or the evening shift, so there is regular daily schedule. If you work well taking instructions, and enjoy a scheduled routine this could be the role for you!

Hospitality

We require a small team of hospitality volunteers to help welcome guests, and support the day-to-day needs of the Forum management team and volunteers. This is by no means an easy option, and will require hard work, patience and cheerfulness. Sunny smiles and feeling at ease meeting and greeting will also be of benefit! You will be preparing rooms for our guests, including cleaning and distributing linen, delivering meals to Forum staff and the volunteers who are unable to leave their posts during meals times, as well as being on hand to welcome guests each day, and deal with any of their practical needs. We also require one hospitality volunteer who can bring their car to Forum and act as a driver to help deliver heavy things across a large site (see more information below).

Technical

Volunteers who join the technical team need to have experience in running small PA systems and using recording equipment - an ability to operate multimedia (AV) equipment is also valuable, but not essential. You'll be able to use your gifts to serve the IT and technical needs of our main meetings, Digging Deeper tracks, workshops, and After Hours meetings.

First Aiders

If you have an up-to-date First Aid qualification then we would love to hear from you! We need male and female first aiders to support the health and safety needs of the students and staff at Forum. We will provide all the equipment you need including an extensive first aid kit, a designated first aid area complete with beds and privacy screens, even your own walkie-talkies! Being able to deal with everything from bruises to broken bones with a calm, caring and common-sense attitude is essential.

Drivers

We need stewards at Forum who will act predominantly as drivers. With various guests arriving throughout the week we need drivers on standby to provide essential transport. You may be taking people to the nearest train station, making a few essential trips to the nearest Sainsbury's, or helping us on-site particularly with the hospitality team who often transport heavy things across site. You will need a valid UK drivers licence, and be able to bring your car to Forum - depending on your sense of direction bringing a Sat Nav could be useful! We will of course reimburse all petrol costs used throughout the week. When not driving, you'll be able to take part in other steward activities.

Night Security

We're looking for a small team to provide a visible presence on site through the night to look out for the safety of the delegates and the security of their belongings. Anyone with experience of security or night-time working is especially encouraged to apply. Volunteers should be willing to take on the aspects of patrolling that this will entail. An ability to stay awake at night will be helpful! Your services will be required on four consecutive nights from 12pm until 7am. You will be working in pairs, have your own sleeping quarters to ensure proper rest during the day, as well as access to hot food at night. We will provide the equipment that is needed.

Dates

Technical, Steward, First Aid, Hospitality, and Driver volunteers are needed from Friday 31st or Saturday 1st until Friday 7th September. Cooks and Night Security are needed from Monday 3rd until Friday 7th September.

Opportunities for All

Forum is committed to ensuring opportunities for all to join as volunteers. The nature of a large site means that if you have any health issues, particularly with mobility, that it would be advisable to think carefully about the role that would work best for you. Please do get in touch to chat through the best way to use your gifts.

How do I apply?
