Volunteer at Forum

Forum Volunteers are essential to the smooth running of Forum. Without you we simply couldn't do what we set out to do.

As a volunteer your prime commitment is to ensure that the behind-the-scene arrangements run smoothly. Most people won't notice what you do if you do it well. In fact it will probably only be noticed if it goes wrong! However it should qualify as an up-to-date application of foot washing. As well as laying up treasure in heaven, you may be able to attend a few of the Forum talks/workshops but we can't guarantee how many. As a volunteer you're here to serve practically.

Provided you're over 18 there are a number of roles available to you:

  • Stewards: We need a team of stewards, three of whom will act as Head Steward on a shift. Stewards will be involved with all aspects of site security, tent-sitting, setting up facilities for meetings, and other practical duties. You may even have the chance to sleep in the Big Top!
  • Technical support: Volunteers who join the technical team need to have experience in running small PA systems and using recording equipment - an ability to operate, multimedia (AV) equipment is also valuable, but not essential
  • Cooks: Assistant cooks are required working in small teams in one of two kitchens, supervised by a professional caterer. Two shifts operate (pre-breakfast through to lunch, and post-lunch through to dinner), and some assistance with hot drinks in the evening may be required. It is helpful to have some strong people volunteer as cooks – heavy pans need to be shifted etc.
  • First Aiders: Volunteers with current First Aid qualifications are particularly welcome. - **FULL**
  • Hospitality: Sunny smiles and social skills of benefit here! Your job could feel a bit bitty but will really help Forum nonetheless. Bringing drinks to people, showing speakers to their rooms are among some of the various tasks you might do. - **FULL**

As a volunteer we'll provide you with indoor accommodation and all food (though some people prefer to camp – please let us know if you'd consider it). However, because of budgetary constraints, we won't be able to cover any other expenses (e.g. travel). If this would make volunteering impossible for you please let us know as we may be able to make exceptions in certain cases.

If you want to come to Forum as a volunteer, you need to download the application form, fill it in and send it back to us.

The form is a Microsoft Word document - if that means you can't open it, drop us a line.
