When I was younger I dreamt of going to the London College of Fashion where you ‘didn’t follow fashion but made it happen’ but never really thought I would end up there. The desire to be a fashion designer had gone by the time I got there and I just felt that that was where God wanted me to be. I chose to do Product Development for the fashion industries because it was a happy medium between creative and business and meant that there would be lots of opportunities upon graduating. I think that while at college I learnt more about life and other people than fashion. The London Institute Christian Union was a great place for making like-minded friends from different courses/colleges and growing together in our faith. The friendships made there have continued to be a support after graduation and into the working world.
Due to the vocational nature of the course and having completed a year in industry I found a job fairly soon after graduating. I work for Puma in their new international office in London. As a garment developer for sports lifestyle fashion I am involved with choosing fabrics and trims, working on the designers drawings to make them understandable to the factory, fittings and approving samples. I enjoy taking part in meetings and the satisfaction of making a garment ‘work’. Opportunities and challenges are seeking to be a consistent witness in my work and in the way I relate to the people in my office.
