Hannah Currin

Graphic Designer

I studied Graphic Design at Central St Martins in London and learnt so much in my time there. A miracle no less that I got in. I was destined for a music degree and naively entered into the art world. Because of this I had no real role models but knew God wanted me to further a gift he had most definitely given me. I struggled with the purpose of design but now I know that I am created to be creative. This is powerful and in turn becomes worship; a lifestyle. The artist and crafts people of the bible are mentioned numerous times with great care and detail and I see our creator God pleased with those who walk in their calling. I find design a great discipline for me, working through briefs, meeting deadlines and seeing the finished product.

I currently produce the printed resource; book layout design for Derek Prince Ministries; a Christian publishing house. I sit at a desk and layout endless books and often get complacent that I’m not seeing things happen in the real world but I know that God’s word is living and it’s the only resource that is being translated in many countries, sowing seeds and changing lives. I’m challenged however, to think quick and produce ideas continuously. At college I could sit and scribble around ideas for hours, I now have a job to get done. This seems to squash my creativity and goes against everything we were taught at college.

My first design job couldn’t have been more different however. I went straight into a design house in Farringdon in London after college and worked under extraordinary people. Unethical and willing to cut corners showing no reserve in doing things badly. It was hard to adhere to this way of working but was offered a full time job on my moral standing. I would encourage young designers to stand firm in your faith and trust God to provide opportunities and inspirations. Because He will.
