Quiet Times

The houseparty is a great opportunity to emphasise the importance of a regular time for personal prayer and Bible study. A half hour slot after breakfast each day is probably best (longer and some younger or non-Christians may be put off, before breakfast and the temptation will be there to sleep through it). As well as providing a window in the programme, remember that the example of the committee will speak volumes. Given that some people will not be used to the concept of quiet times and will not therefore have notes to turn to, how about laying on some materials for them to use? Could a more mature Christian have a joint QT with them? An easy way to provide study materials would be to cut up an old copy of Alive to God notes or similar - it doesn’t matter that the dates will be wrong. Alternatively you could get somebody to prepare some questions. Perhaps you could prime the speaker to bring study outlines and/or questions for reflection that will tie in with their sessions. It might also be well to have some introductory notes on Quiet Times available; the Navigators booklet “Seven Minutes with God” is a good place to start.
