Alex Freeman
CU Staff Worker
Alex was fortunate to spend most of his early years in ‘Amazingstoke, following brief times in Camberley and Paris. Through the work of the church and youth group there, he grew to know and love the Lord Jesus. Key to his spiritual growth was meeting up 1-2-1 with a Maths teacher to study the Bible.
After a gap year working for the MOD, which turned out to be more grammar checking foreign peoples reports, than actual work, he realised that now being older than Wayne Rooney, meant the final death of his ‘until-then-totally-realistic-pro-footballer dreams’, and so made his way to Bristol University for a four year stint of Electronic Engineering.
After a tough year, Uni, and the CU in particular, was a great place to make great Christian friends that helped challenge and support him throughout his time at Uni and beyond. The CU also afforded many opportunities for Christian Leadership, teaching and service, as well as being the context in which Alex first saw the need and value of evangelism for the ordinary Christian, and the beauty of sacrificial unity in the gospel. After graduating, Alex moved to London to do a trainee associate programme in London, teaching him to better understand and teach God’s word.
Now, after a two year ‘sabbatical’ working with grown-ups, Alex is excited to be back working with students, and is only slightly worried that his love of lie ins and staying up late won’t fit the modern student life. Along with bad sleeping habits, Alex also enjoys cooking, eating and drinking, and indeed most things, as long as the company’s good.
