Gareth Leaney
CU Staff Worker
Gareth is a Derbyshire lad, born and bred, although life has taken him away from the most beautiful part of Britain. He studied at the University of Bristol, and it was there he was confronted with the reality of what it means to follow Jesus as Lord. He became a Christian at the end of Freshers’ Week, and he’s been excited about sharing the gospel with students ever since.
He was involved in the Christian Union at Bristol, a time which had a huge impact on him, and where he started to get the idea that God wanted him to spend his time teaching people the Bible. From Bristol he moved to Essex, where he spent a year as a Relay worker, and three more years working in a church in Southend-on-Sea.
Eventually he managed to leave Essex, and he now works in Reading and Guildford as a CU staffworker. He is loving the opportunity to tell people the great news about Jesus, and helping people to see how it applies to every aspect of their lives.
Gareth considers himself a connoisseur of popular culture – he loves cheesy pop music, films (especially chick-flicks and musicals) and TV. He loves making, sharing and eating good food, and he’s a particularly big fan of trifle.
