Starting a Christian Union
Step 3 - Plan a programme
Having let people know about the CU you really want it to be something that people can’t wait to come back to the following week. A well-planned CU meeting will help people to have confidence in what the CU is trying to do and will encourage people to come back.
A good CU meeting will be a meeting that keeps Bible teaching central. If you want to inspire people to do mission on campus then you want them to love the gospel, and the best way of helping people to do that is to allow them to hear God’s voice as he speaks through his written word.
You might want to ask a local church leader to come and give a talk, or you could lead a Bible study. There are plenty of good resources out there that will help you do that. You could plan to study a book over a term.
You might also want to include a time of worship in your meeting, some time to pray, and some time to get to know each other better. If the CU is to be a good team its team members need to know each other and care about them. While the CU isn’t a social club it is important to have some social elements. These things may well become times when you invite unbelieving students to hang out with you.
