This is the year many new students feel that everything about university has changed.
Those early weeks of student life are usually an intense time of friendship-building, but many typical “freshers” events aren’t happening or are adapting online.
It will be more difficult for CUs to welcome students whether Christian or not. How do we stay on mission when so many of our usual plans have been disrupted?
The Need: Raising Awareness of CU Online
Research suggests that results day (4 August in Scotland, 13 August elsewhere) is when new students really start thinking about being a student.
But… if conversations about arriving at university happen as early as results day… and if we can’t have all our typical freshers’ events… then grabbing attention early this summer is key!
IGTV, Stories, TikToks, Live Streams… Social media is almost all visual, isn’t it?
That’s why great welcome videos made by CUs all over country can give a huge invite to any and all new students.
Instagram Stories and TikToks are used because they’re short, attention-grabbing and interesting.
We rarely stop and read; we often scroll and watch.
And think about this: how many videos do you see from pages and accounts you follow? How many more from friends who share videos from pages and accounts you don’t follow?
Put that together: eye-catching, peer-to-peer shareable videos will help new students link up with the CU over summer.
