Do you love student ministry, seeing hundreds of students passionate about God and wanting to share Jesus with their campus? Are you someone who loves to serve practically and serve others?
We need passionate and willing volunteers for our major training conference Forum! Forum relies on a fantastic team of fifty volunteers to serve in a variety of ways including:
More information about the different roles and what they involve is below. We will need some volunteers to arrive in the days leading up to the event, and most will need to stay until 17:00 on the day the event finishes to help with packing and cleaning.
Indoor accommodation (single sex rooms with shared bathrooms) and food will be provided free of charge, as well as everything you need to do your job well (except a car if you’re a driver!) But, please be prepared to bring your own face coverings and suitable comfortable footwear – you might be on your feet for long periods or need appropriately covered shoes/boots for certain tasks.
Please bear in mind that while meal times and breaks are provided, volunteering is a full-time role at Forum – so it may not be possible to accommodate your role around specific aspects of the programme, for example.
‘Through volunteering, I have been equipped to come back and serve my CU, my church and everyone else in so many ways.’
‘Volunteering is fun and because I benefited a lot from going to Forum when I was leading CU, I can see how necessary the volunteers are.’
‘Volunteering at Forum was a great experience, challenging and fun at the same time. It's a worthwhile thing to do and the team dynamic is great.’
The back-bone of Forum, stewards provide essential support throughout the week. Part of a large team, you will help manage our venues, including the main meetings, teaching tracks, and After Hours events. You will help set up facilities for meetings and provide day-time site security through patrols. You will also assist in keeping the site clean and things like hand sanitiser stocked up! If you can work well as part of a team, and like problem solving with a helpful and friendly attitude then we’d love to hear from you! Stewards are needed from Saturday 27 August 14:00 or Monday 29 August 10:00
Volunteers who join the production team need to have experience in running small PA systems and using recording equipment - an ability to operate multimedia (AV) equipment is also valuable, but not essential. You’ll be able to use your gifts to serve the IT and technical needs of our main meetings, teaching tracks and workshops, plus After Hours events. Needed from Saturday 27 August 10:00.
If you have an up-to-date First Aid qualification then we would love to hear from you! We need male and female first aiders to support the health and safety needs of the students and staff at Forum. We will provide all the equipment you need including an extensive first aid kit, a designated first aid area, plus your own walkie-talkies! Being able to deal with everything from bruises to broken bones with a calm, caring and common-sense attitude is essential. Needed from Saturday 27 August 10:00.
We need stewards at Forum who will act predominantly as drivers. With various guests arriving throughout the week we need drivers on standby to provide essential transport. You may be taking people to the nearest train station, making a few essential trips to the nearest Sainsbury’s, or helping the hospitality team who often transport heavy things across site. You will need a valid UK drivers licence, and be able to bring your car to Forum – depending on your sense of direction bringing a satnav could be useful! We will of course reimburse all petrol costs used throughout the week. When not driving, you’ll be able to take part in other steward activities. Needed from Saturday 27 August 10:00.
We require a small team of hospitality volunteers to help welcome guests, and support the day-to-day needs of the Forum management team and volunteers. This role will require hard work, patience and cheerfulness. Sunny smiles and feeling at ease meeting and greeting will also be of benefit! You will be preparing rooms for our guests, delivering meals to Forum staff and the volunteers who are unable to leave their posts during meals times, as well as being on hand to welcome guests each day, and deal with any of their practical needs. We also require one hospitality volunteer who can bring their car to Forum and act as a driver to help deliver heavy things across a large site (see more information below). Needed from Monday 29 August 10:00.
You’ll be working in small teams under the supervision of the professional catering staff in the kitchens. No special cooking skills will be required as everything will be explained by the professional catering team, but if you enjoy preparing food that’s a plus. If you work well taking instructions, and enjoy a scheduled routine this could be the role for you! Needed from Tuesday 30 August 14:00.
We’re looking for individuals to provide a visible presence on site through the night to look out for the safety of the delegates and the security of their belongings. Anyone with experience of security or night-time working is especially encouraged to apply. Volunteers should be willing to take on the aspects of patrolling that this will entail. An ability to stay awake at night will be helpful! Your services will be required on four consecutive nights from 11pm until 7am. You will be working in pairs, have your own sleeping quarters to ensure proper rest during the day, as well as access to food during your shift. Needed from Tuesday 30 August 17:00.
