Serbia Summer Team
‘In a land of new beginnings the past is not forgotten, but the future is bright’
(Serbia, A Storytellers Film; Mark Hofmeyr)
Serbia is a small country on the Balkan Peninsula that has endured a lot of conflict throughout its history and where evangelical Christians are a small minority. Join us this year as we return to partner with the Serbian CU movement, Evanđeosko udruženje studenata (EUS). Together we'll run a summer camp; teaching English, sharing our cultures and inviting students to meet Jesus in the gospels. What better way is there to spend your summer?!
Last year we had the privilege of seeing people trust in Jesus for the first time, and others take significant steps forward in their walk with him through the camp, as well as growing ourselves in the love of our global God. We'll be staying at a hostel in Fuzine, Croatia, about 30km from the coast (we'll be running some seaside excursions too!). The hostel has rooms of four, with a bathroom per room. All food will be provided there. In Belgrade we'll be staying in a hostel within walking distance of the EUS office, and enjoy sampling the excellent local cuisine, as well as trying to cook it ourselves! The camp is a 6-8 hour drive from Belgrade and we'll travel by minibus/coach. In Belgrade we'll use the local buses for any sightseeing/travel around the city.
You can expect plenty of time alongside Serbian students; last year we learnt Serbian Uno, got beaten soundly at basketball and spent plenty of time chatting over coffee. Together we'll prepare and teach some top quality English lessons, learn to praise God in Serbian, and enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the Mediterranean Slavs, and maybe even make some lifelong friends. We're looking to take a team of 10, including leaders, so there are 8 places available. In the extremely unlikely event that we fail to recruit at least 4 students, we may have to cancel the trip. Be part of making sure that doesn't happen, and ensure this great partnership between London and Serbian CUs goes on thriving! In this ˜land of new beginnings" we want to see Serbian students know fully that the future is made bright by knowing the light of the world, Jesus Christ. Will you join us? It really is a fantastic opportunity.
We'll fly to Serbia on Thurs 18th, have team training and aclimatising to the culture for 2 days, before overnight travel to the camp on Sat/Sunday night. The camp runs for a week from 21st - 28th in Fuzine (Croatia), then we'll head back to Belgrade for a few days to debrief and hang out with the Serbians
Flights from London to Belgrade and all travel within the country are covered in the cost of the trip. Holders of a British passport do not need a visa to enter the country but others may be required to do so. The cost of any visa is not included in the price of the trip. Travel insurance is provided within the cost.
For participation in many of our summer teams you would need to be up-to-date with routine UK vaccinations and may need to have one or two more, these are likely to include Tetanus, and possibly Hep A and Hep B. We advise you talk to your GP regarding which vaccinations you will need in particular in Serbia. The cost of these vaccinations is not included in the price of the trip.
The price of the trip will be £825 in total which includes food, accommodation, travel, insurance and attendance at the orientation conference which is held from 17th - 19th May 2019 at the Quinta Christian Centre in Oswestry. Staff leading the teams have extensive experience of support raising and will be able to give you advice on this.
The payment schedule is as follows:
Should delays occur at the outward or homewards points of departure we’ll work with the host movement and the Travel Management Company to ensure that you are able to take another flight to your destination and that accommodation is provided if necessary.
The money you pay for the trip will be transferred into a designated fund which will only be used to pay for the summer team. ATOL and ABTA will ensure that you are repatriated or given a full refund for the flight in the unlikely event of the Travel Management Company’s financial failure, and if you have booked a package holiday with us. For the non-flight components of the trip, in accordance with "The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992" all passengers booking with UCCF are fully protected for the initial deposit and subsequently the balance of all monies paid to us, including repatriation if required, arising from cancellation or curtailment of your travel arrangements due to the insolvency of UCCF.
