Ukraine Summer Team
CCX, the Christian Union movement in Ukraine, has an evangelistic English language ministry, operating in a number of universities across the country. They're running summer camps, one of which we'd love to be able to support with opportunities to share the gospel, learn from our brothers and sisters in a different context, and grow together on mission.
While we're there we'll participate in English language teaching, have opportunities to befriend and get alongside students who come (the majority of whom will be unbelievers), be fully involved with all the activities and share our faith through Bible studies and evangelistic opportunities.
It's 2 weeks we're away in L'viv, in Western Ukraine near to Poland. The trip consists of two very different weeks:
First week: Setting up the camp, getting to know the rest of the team, preparing Bible studies and workshops, visiting L'viv "the city of chocolate, coffee and cobbled streets" it's really beautiful!
Second week: Ukrainian students arrive. Days will involve morning and evening main meetings where we play games, sing and hear evangelistic talks related to our small group Bible study passages. We also break into small groups to study a number of Bible passages each day as an opportunity for students to practise their analytical English skills and discover God's word. Also we run outdoor challenges, we eat together, hang out together/play sports, run workshops (varying from Media to Travel to English skills). Each evening has its own activity - including the famous Ukrainian dance night! It's a LOT of fun!
We’ll be flying to and from London to Kyiv (Boryspil airport) and taking a train to the camp in L'viv where we'll stay in a block of conference accommodation hosted by a local Roman Catholic Seminary - it's clean, comfortable and includes wifi!. It's beautiful and surrounded by woodland. On a couple of days we will take a coach into the city centre of L'viv. All meals are included in the cost of the trip. We'll spend the first four days preparing and planning for the summer camp then seven days on the camp itself sharing the gospel and making friends with Ukrainian students before spending a day debriefing before the final day which we spend sight seeing in Kiev.
You’ll need an up-to-date passport but a visa is not required for holders of a UK passport. For those who do require a visa an early application is recommended to allow sufficient time for this to be processed. The cost of any visa is not included in the price of the trip. For participation in many of our summer teams you would need to be up-to-date with routine UK vaccinations and may need to have one or two more, these are likely to include Hepatitus A. We do however advise you talk to your GP regarding which vaccinations you will need in particular in the Ukraine. The cost of these vaccinations is not included in the price of the trip.
In the highly unlikely event that only 8 people were to apply we would discuss the possibility of cancelling the trip.
The price of the trip will be £915 in total and this includes the price of attending the Summer Team Orientation Conference from 17th - 19th May 2019 at the Quinta Christian Centre in Oswestry. The money you pay also includes a contribution towards paying for the running of the camp and for attendees in our host country.
The payment schedule is as follows:
On Application - £171.50
22nd May - £330.50
13th June - £413
Should delays occur at the outward or homewards points of departure we’ll work with the host movement and the Travel Management Company to ensure that you are able to take another flight to your destination and that accommodation is provided if necessary.
The money you pay for the trip will be transferred into a designated fund which will only be used to pay for the summer team. ATOL and ABTA will ensure that you are repatriated or given a full refund for the flight in the unlikely event of the Travel Management Company’s financial failure, and if you have booked a package holiday with us. For the non-flight components of the trip, in accordance with "The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992" all passengers booking with UCCF are fully protected for the initial deposit and subsequently the balance of all monies paid to us, including repatriation if required, arising from cancellation or curtailment of your travel arrangements due to the insolvency of UCCF.
