Serbia is a small country on the Balkan Peninsula that has endured a lot of conflict throughout its history and where evangelical Christians are a small minority. Join us this year as we return after a short break to partner with the Serbian CU movement, Evandeosko Udruzenje Studenata (EUS). Together we'll run a summer camp; teaching English, sharing our cultures and inviting students to meet Jesus in the gospels. What better way is there to spend your summer?
Despite being very different culturally, you as a student will identify with many of the things that Serbia students face.
In the past we've had the privilege of seeing people trust in Jesus for the first time, and others take significant steps forward in their walk with him through the camp, as well as growing ourselves in the love of our global God.
You can expect plenty of time alongside Serbian students in social situations, from board games to basketball and plenty of time chatting over coffee. Together we'll prepare and teach some top quality English lessons, learn to praise God in Serbian, and enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the Mediterranean Slavs, and maybe even make some lifelong friends. We're looking to take a team of 10, including leaders, so there are 8 places available.
Either side of the camp we'll be in Belgrade staying in a hostel within walking distance of the EUS office, and enjoy sampling the excellent local cuisine, as well as trying to cook it ourselves! The camp is a 6-7 hour drive from Belgrade and we'll travel by minibus/coach over the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina, at Emek Beraka. In Belgrade we'll use the local buses for any sightseeing/travel around the city. In accommodation in Belgrade and Emek Beraka you'll be sharing a room with other members of the team in single-sex dormitories.
Would you prayerfully consider joining in with this crucial mission? This year we’re opening applications up to students from both the south east and south west regions for the first time! We’d love for you to apply.
The team will take place from 20 - 31 July although with agreement this may change by a day depending on flights. We'll fly from London straight to Belgrade and spend a day there before heading over to the camp for 22-28 July. We'll then travel back to Belgrade for time to debrief.
The total cost of the trip is £850 and this includes flights, accommodation and food whilst we are out there. Cost of travel to the London airport and any vaccinations is not included in the price. Upon application we will require a deposit of 10% of the price. A second installment of 40% is required following orientation, and the outstanding amount needs to be paid prior to departure.
In the extremely unlikely event that we fail to recruit at least 4 students, we may have to cancel the trip. Be part of making sure that doesn't happen, and ensure this great partnership between UCCF and Serbian CUs goes on thriving! In this land of new beginnings we want to see Serbian students know fully that the future is made bright by knowing the light of the world, Jesus Christ. Will you join us? It really is a fantastic opportunity.
Those travelling on a British passport will not be required to apply for a visa for this trip. There are no vaccinations required for this trip but it is recommended that you are up to date with your routine vaccination courses and boosters. You may also wish to speak to your GP or pharmacist about additional vaccines such as Hep A.
Should delays occur at the outward or homewards points of departure we’ll work with the host movement and the Travel Management Company to ensure that you are able to take another flight to your destination and that accommodation is provided if necessary.
The money you pay for the trip will be transferred into a designated fund which will only be used to pay for the summer team. ATOL and ABTA will ensure that you are repatriated or given a full refund for the flight in the unlikely event of the Travel Management Company’s financial failure, and if you have booked a package holiday with us. For the non-flight components of the trip, in accordance with "The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992" all passengers booking with UCCF are fully protected for the initial deposit and subsequently the balance of all monies paid to us, including repatriation if required, arising from cancellation or curtailment of your travel arrangements due to the insolvency of UCCF.
