There’s a unique opportunity for evangelism on my degree programme – veterinary medicine – as we study on a separate campus and the course is longer than most. I believe I have been called to be a witness to my coursemates, but it’s challenging at times to keep going when faced with dismissal or rejection.
I had been praying and looking for opportunities to share my faith, so I invited as many friends as possible to Edinburgh University CU’s events week. A few came to events, and it was such an encouragement to know that they heard the gospel and saw the love within the Christian community of CU.
It is amazing how many students are open-minded and curious about faith.
At the end of an event, one of my friends declared they were interested in going to a weekly Bible study organised by a local church. I was so excited and surprised!
Since then, my friend and I have attended these Bible studies every week, giving them the chance to ask questions in a safe space and in their own time. I have been so blessed to watch God nurture the seed that was sown in our CU events week. Shortly after Easter, my friend said they believed in the resurrection – I have never felt so much joy! They began to attend services on Sunday mornings, read the Gospels and enjoy other Christian books.
With the summer approaching, they were eager to find a church near their home and have signed up for an Alpha course in their local area. I’m praying that they will remain interested and find a community to encourage them in faith – and that I can support them from afar.
I’ve seen that our God is powerful to save, and He does.
It is a privilege to have been part of my friend’s journey to faith, and I often marvel at how God can use me, small and weak as I am, to be a witness to His love and His gospel. I’ve also been reminded that I am not alone in my mission of evangelism but supported by CU, local church, Christian friends and our God.
