Three ways to use Uncover Luke in your church

The call to share the gospel and make disciples runs throughout Scripture, yet, many believers feel uncertain about how to begin conversations about faith, often fearing rejection or not knowing what to say. As church leaders and members, we must not only encourage one another in this call but also provide practical tools to make it easier.

Uncover Luke is one such tool. Designed to be simple, clear, and engaging, it helps Christians invite others to encounter Jesus in the pages of Scripture.

Here are three ways your church can use Uncover Luke:

1) Develop an evangelism strategy

All churches should have a clear plan for equipping members in evangelism. Recent reports from the Bible Society and the Evangelical Alliance suggest people today are increasingly open to attending church and reading the Bible. This provides a remarkable opportunity for us to respond. Courses such as Christianity Explored, Alpha, Speak Life, and many others are excellent for inviting people into groups to explore life’s big questions. Yet, there is also a vital need to equip church members to open the Bible personally with their seeking friends. Uncover Luke is written precisely for this purpose. The questions are accessible, relatable and allow for depth in conversation, while the glossaries and historical context help clarify challenging passages. Importantly, it requires no prior training, making it a practical and confidence building resource for the whole church.

2) Introduce Uncover into small groups

Small groups provide an ideal setting to grow familiar with Uncover Luke.

  • Christian only groups: some people may feel hesitant about using a new resource. They are likely to be uncertain of how to use it, what questions they could expect or how best to guide a discussion. Using Uncover within your small group is an excellent way to build confidence and familiarity. As members work through the material together, we hope they will become more comfortable with the resource and thereby feel more equipped and confident to invite friends to read it with them. Uncover also creates space for prayer, encouragement, and accountability as members seek opportunities to read with friends. Over time, this builds a culture of invitation and mission.
  • Mixed groups: Where small groups include both Christians and seekers, Uncover Luke is particularly helpful. It is designed to foster mutual discovery, rather than positioning Christians as ‘experts,’ it creates an environment where everyone can ask questions, reflect together, and encounter Jesus anew.

3) Equipping youth groups

Because Uncover Luke was designed for Generation Z, it is a natural fit for youth ministry. The questions prompt young people to see not only the truth of Jesus but also the goodness and beauty of his character, applying these realities to their own lives.

It also encourages young people to invite peers to read Scripture with them. In my own church a young person invited her friend from school to read Uncover, inspiring others to do the same. The resource also provides a safe structure for young people to practise leading Bible studies, developing skills they may carry into future leadership roles within the church.

Final encouragement

In my own church, Uncover Luke has proven fruitful across all these settings. Testimonies shared in prayer meetings of reading Uncover, whether of encouragement or challenge, have inspired others to be prayerful and expectant in inviting friends to open God’s Word. It has also served as a natural follow up to evangelistic courses, deepening conversations about Jesus.

If your church includes students, be sure to support them. Thousands of copies of Uncover Luke are being used across university Christian Unions, where students are inviting friends to engage directly with the gospel. Please pray for their boldness and confidence in inviting others, and that their friends would encounter Jesus through reading Luke’s Gospel.

Students are such a blessing to the life of the church, and we pray that their zeal for opening God’s word will also have a wider influence on those of all ages in the church body.
