Jacob Orchard

Jacob will be starting work with UCCF as Relay Worker in August 2025.

Jacob is doing Relay in Swansea, supporting the Christian Union in Swansea University.

Relay is a ten-month discipleship, training and mission programme run by UCCF, a charity which aims to give every student in Great Britain an opportunity to hear and respond to the good news about Jesus Christ.

Relay Workers equip, resource and encourage student Christian Unions whilst being discipled and trained by a member of UCCF staff.

Jacob says...

Hi, I'm Jacob and I'll be doing Relay in Swansea, home of the best football team in Wales! My last 3 years were spent at Aberystwyth University. This time really grounded me in my faith, and the solid gospel teaching in Alfred Place reinforced this. What struck me in my time in Aberystwyth was God's power and how He promises to walk closely with us, particularly evident in our Christian Union mission week where souls were saved. I was excited to share the Word with others and enjoy unity with other Christians, which I want to continue as a part of Relay.

Now that my time at university has ended, I am excited to be doing Relay in Swansea. It will be a privilege to get alongside the students and disciple them, rejoicing in God's Word together as a Christian Union so that we can go out together in evangelism, relying wholly on Him. I am also excited by the opportunity to learn more and study the Bible in more depth, as this is how God speaks to us and there is so much wisdom in it.

Initially, I was reluctant to do Relay because of the financial side of it. God has shown me that I must rely on Him in my weakness to guide me in the upcoming year. As Relay is a volunteer role, I will be relying on donations to contribute to living and ministry costs. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and whether you choose to give financially or prayerfully, it is much appreciated! Feel free to sign up for my prayer letter using the links on this page.

Pray for Jacob

Prayer is a vital part of supporting Jacob’s work with Christian Unions. Here are some prayer points from Jacob:

  • For the CU in Swansea that they will depend on God's strength and be bold in sharing the gospel on both campuses.
  • For the non-believing students of Swansea that they will be curious, ask questions, and be receptive to the gospel.
  • For CUs across the regions, as God's mission and power isn't limited to one place! We are united in Christ - 1 Corinthians 12:12-27.

Partner with Jacob

It costs on average £8,000–12,000 to cover the living and ministry expenses of a Relay Worker.

Having a team of people who partner financially and in prayer with Relay Workers means that they can:

  • Encourage CU students in their faith in the Lord Jesus.
  • Give biblically-grounded answers to students exploring Christianity.
  • Support CUs as they seek to give every student the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel.
