Relay Workers follow a unique study programme designed to ground them theologically and practically through diverse means of study. Relay is designed to have both training and study elements that will be passed on through practical hands-on ministry with students. As well as the conferences, one morning/afternoon a week is devoted to core study and another morning/afternoon gives time for elective study.

Core Study

Core study helps you work through key biblical doctrines. The specially selected material guides you through a new topic each month. You'll prepare different kinds of study response and receive detailed and helpful feedback from your supervisor.

Every week you will have the opportunity to delve into some of the core doctrines of the Christian faith, following the arc of God’s interaction with his creation.

Elective Study

We believe that the bible teaches us that Christ is Lord over every aspect of life. As part of your time on the Relay programme you will have the opportunity to spend time thinking about how your faith enriches a specific aspect of life. The Relay Elective is a unique opportunity to apply the gospel deeply to an area of life.

  1. Relay Leadership Network elective gathers Relay Workers to focus on what it means to love Jesus in their field. This includes time to work on their own projects and receive criticism from others, plus the chance to minister to students from their specific disciplines.
  2. Relay + elective combines a year of spiritual growth and CU work with the opportunity for Relay Workers to practice their creative skills in a professional office environment. Relay + opportunities can include publishing, graphic design, web development, and communications.
  3. Relay Homestart elective is an opportunity to spend the Relay year taking part in language training as well as thinking about cross-cultural mission, with a view to spending a further year or more working within an IFES movement in another country.
