Why UCCF?

We believe that every student should be given the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who chooses to remember UCCF in their Will. We recognise that it is a great statement of trust in our work and we take our responsibility to be good stewards of your donation very seriously.

What can you leave?

There are three types of gift you can leave in your will:

  1. A residuary gift – this is a share of your total estate after all other payments have been made (such as lifetime debts, tax, gifts to family and friends, and administrative expenses). Because a residuary gift is a percentage of your estate it will keep its value over time.
  2. A pecuniary gift – this is a fixed amount of money that you leave in your will. Inflation can gradually reduce the gift’s value and mean your gift is less powerful than you intend, so it is a good idea to regularly review pecuniary gifts.
  3. A specific gift – you can leave a particular item of value – such as personal possessions, property or shares. It is helpful if the terms of such a gift allow discretion to UCCF as to how we proceed with the sale or use of such items.

When deciding what type of bequest to make, it helps to have a clear idea of your personal assets so you can work out what would best suit your situation. To ensure maximum flexibility, we would encourage anyone leaving UCCF a gift in their will to give no restrictions as to its use. This will enable us to use the gift wherever the need is greatest to further our ministry with students.

What next?

If you are looking at writing or reviewing your will then it is important to seek independent legal advice. The cost of drawing up a simple will should not be large; a solicitor will ensure that legal formalities are followed and that you will feel comfortable about the content of your will. You can find a local solicitor through the Law Society at www.lawsociety.org.uk.

Your solicitor will be able to supply the correct wording to include a charitable gift in your will. Alternatively, if you have written your will, your solicitor will be able to advise you on the best way to make changes or additions to your will to ensure your wishes will be carried out.
