What should we be posting?

Social media works best when its planned well with a variety of posts and advertising upcoming events in plenty of time.

Have a look at this example social media plan to get an idea of what’s coming up before the start of first term that you’ll need to prepare for.

Remember to consider the different audiences that might follow you. You’ll probably have a mixture of all these below! So, when planning your posts, make sure to have a mixture of things that will cater to the following groups:

  • New students – what impression of the CU do you want to give a new student? What is going to make them really feel welcomed?
  • Returning students – are there schedule changes they need to know about? How can they be supporting the CU?
  • International students – specific posts for international students, or even considering phrases that acknowledge them (e.g. “Wherever you’re from in the world, we can wait to meet you!”), prevents giving the impression that CU is just for British students. We’re for everyone!
  • Curious/seeking students who aren’t Christians – let them know you’re there for them! Is there content that will give them a glimpse of what Christians believe, not just what Christian Union members do? You could share articles/videos from websites like Uncover or Bethinking.

As well as the key dates and events in the social media plan, there will be other posts you might want to create to continue to welcome new students, inform current students with what’s happening, and continue to build community throughout the year

Here are some ideas to get you started, we’d love to see your creative ideas on your social media and add them to the list, so make sure to tag @UCCF in your posts!

Top Tip: Term cards outline the plan for the term ahead including your weekly meetings, prayer meetings, Impact groups, any one off events including weekend away/evangelistic events/Carols/Missions week. Create a term card that can be sent to CU members in group chats, Facebook groups, or mailing lists so that they have a clear idea of what to expect and plan out their diary accordingly.
