Appendix 3 – Other Facebook features

Here are some other things you can do/create on your page.

  • Link to Instagram. Link up your Instagram and Facebook pages so you can post the same posts from Instagram on to Facebook. It also means you can share your stories from Instagram to Facebook stories. Just make sure your captions make sense on both platforms (you might say ‘link in bio’ on Instagram but that doesn’t work on facebook, make sure you edit the post on Facebook to include the link in the caption). It’s easiest to post on Instagram and let it post for you onto Facebook than to manually post everything twice.
  • Using Facebook stories. Very similar to using Instagram stories, check out this guide for Instagram pages and how to use stories well.
  • Events. Create events through your page to help promote the event, encourage people to invite friends along, and post updates directly to the event page. These are most effective if people interact with the event (click going/interested, post in the discussion, comment on posts, etc). If you do create them encourage your CU to interact and to invite their friends both in person and online. You can also boost events, check out Appendix 2 – Should I boost my Facebook post?
  • Groups. We’ve already mentioned your New Students Welcome Group, but you could also have a group for the whole CU, or a group for graduates/alumni to keep them up to date with what you’re doing, how they can be praying and practically helping the CU even after graduation. Or local church student workers. This may work for some CUs but not for others — you know your CU and area best!
